Sojo: Memoirs of a Reluctant Sled Dog

Sojo: Memoirs of a Reluctant Sled Dog is about a reluctant sled dog named Sojo. She travels the frozen Alaskan tundra. She doesn’t want to but she learns that being a sled dog is in her blood. She also learns that sled racing can be very dangers. One day when the team is running on thin ice they fall, killing the best lead dog. Sojo has many adventures, and with each one, she learns more about herself.

“By November we dogs were becoming a real team.”

The book is told from Sojo’s point of view, and starts out as her being born, and the reader can see her learn and develop in the many stages of life. Because the book is told from Sojo’s point of view, there are times in the book where Sojo is scared about something, for an example, when she first sees her father, and there are many big, full-grown male huskies with their mouths full of sharp teeth. So this book might be hard or scary for younger kids like eight and nine. Sojo learns a lot in this book, about the world and what she was made to do.

This book would be good for ages 10-13.
