Description
Wally Lamb is a successful author, with many bestselling books to his name, but this one could have been trimmed down and made for a compelling story, as it feels a little long. Corby and Emily Ledbetter are young parents who are struggling in the world. They are struggling with their new child, and Corby, with the loss of his job and an addiction that threatens to upend his relationship with the love of his life, Emily. Corby is arrested and sent to prison, and the story moves to the prison where Corby not only witnesses brutality amongst the prisoners but also great compassion from not only his cellmate but others who are trying to turn their lives around. During his time locked away, Corby goes on a quest to find forgiveness amongst the people around him.
This is a relatively long meditative look at forgiveness amongst a world that lacks compassion and the ability to forgive. After a while, after the reader hopefully gets the message, the book continues. It would have been much better if it were 50-60 pages shorter.
