Description
Ancient India was full of cultures, religion, and history. Alexander the Great made it to the edge of the subcontinent before he was forced to retreat by his weary army. India was at the edge of the Silk Road but this new book argues that Ancient India should be viewed as one of the major players in world history and that many of the things we take for granted today can be traced back to Ancient India.
While it is true that Ancient India helped to provide many items that we use today, such as chess, mathematics, and mythology, the idea of a united India as it stands today is largely the work of colonial British times. The time of the Ancient India is largely focused on what is now northern part of India, while the southern part was considered its own territory and really did not became a part of what is now India until the colonial period.
While this book may be of interest to a lay reader, those with some knowledge of the history of the subcontinent will trod a well-worn path.
