Description

Physics sounds like a science accessible only to nerds, but The Amazing Theater of Physics, a group composed of teachers and an illustrator have assembled a colorful book to show the young reader that, actually physics is all around us. In this guide they focus on the physics that appears in the home. Start in the closet, look in the bathroom, check in the kitchen, even peek in the garage and go outside in the garden. Check out computers, vacuum cleaners, try boiling water at ground level then at the top of a mountain and find the temperature difference. How does a microwave oven work versus an induction cooker. Where does electricity come from and try to find an electric charge in a sweater or in an electrifying haircut. Check out the instruments found in the garage, how to use a saw, and how to loosen nuts and bolts. The amazing visual illustrations have colorful characters emphasizing the descriptions and clarifying the text. Several hands-on experiments are added like making ice-cream using salted ice but no explanation follows on how this works. While the writers demonstrate that physics is at work all over the place, unfortunately more explanations are needed to clarify the phenomena.
