Description
Nothing bad ever happens at the beach, especially at Nantucket. Lucia’s mom believes it’s the best place for Lucia this summer, to forget all that happened at home and, oh yeah, meet mom’s new wealthy boyfriend and his son. Soon after they arrive, Lucia finds a dead girl at the beach, but can’t let it go. Lucia is stunned that no one knows who the girl is or seems to want to solve the mystery of her death as the case cools in the first weeks of summer. When Lucia meets Selah and friends, there’s something irresistible and fun about them but also something mysterious. Lucia follows them to their hangout, and learns they, too, are trying to solve the mystery behind the death, before it happens again.
Lucia’s traumatic past helps shape her character and her drive to find the truth, though her choices and common sense may seem immature at times. The supernatural element is slight and not as well formed as it could be, almost as an afterthought. However, fans of Karen McManus and Megan Miranda will enjoy this quick thriller, where you don’t have to go far to see the worst of mankind.
