Description
My Book and Me is a celebration of the love of books and reading. Here, children describe their beloved books. One book has jam and crayon on it. One child reads it to herself and with others again and again. Another child reads to the dog, the goldfish, and a jar of worms. A girl takes her book everywhere: to the porch, the park, the bus, and even the bathroom. A boy reads at night. The characters capture imaginations. Other children know the words by heart, and sometimes they are so far in their books, they can’t hear you.
Newberry Medal Winner Linda Sue Park has written a lovely, at times rhythmic text that is delightful for reading aloud to little listeners or as an early reader. Caldecott Medal Winner Chris Raschka’s soft, loose illustrations compliment the gentle nature of the text and emphasize inclusivity. One can only hope that this book becomes like the beloved books described in the text for every child who reads it. Even better, may this book be the start of a lifetime love of books and reading.
