Description
The sea calls to Mari, the same way it called to her mother before she went out on the rope and washed ashore the next day dead. Survival for Mari’s village means luring ships into the rocks then swimming out to take whatever cargo they can. But when the watch sets a trap and her Father is arrested, Mari makes a choice; leave her home in search of what her mother left her in hopes that it will be enough to save the people she cares about.
The story was enjoyable, but I didn’t really start getting into it until well past the half way point. The characters are mostly flat and pretty boring, Mari is constantly repeating information, and the plot doesn’t make much sense. There is no reason for her to believe what her mother left will help her. The romance is instant attraction- to every boy she meets who isn’t from her island. I think there’s also supposed to be a love triangle, but because she likes every boy she meets it’s a little confusing.
