Description
Cora’s grandfather is in the hospital, and she’s determined to bring the outside in via her special hat. She collects all that’s associated with the sea: the salty water, the soft and silky sand, and the distant cry of seagulls. She brings her grandpa these treasures and then decides to bring him the countryside, too. She even brings him the darkness of the sky, with its illuminating stars and big, bright moon. Then, one day, she loses her sacred hat. How will she ever make her grandpa happy again? What she discovers is the love she blesses him with is what truly brings him happiness and healing.
This is a neat story about a grandchild’s love for her grandfather and her deep desire to bring him comfort. Her thoughtfulness and imagination brighten his days immeasurably. Children who are close to their grandparents and/or have witnessed a grandparent’s failing condition will relate to A Hat Full of Sea They’ll be touched by its sweetness and ingenuity. The illustrations are vibrant and unique. They’re targeted to the younger crowd – children ages five to seven – with their scribbly-scrolly appearance. However, the text is appropriate for a wider audience: youth ages five to nine.
