Lighten Your Load is a short but practical guide of 35 suggestions on how to declutter and detoxify your life. Karin Kiser brings a witty and simple approach to how to simplify your life and free yourself from the physical, emotional, and mental stressors that tend to overwhelm our everyday life. Karin approaches the subject by providing 35 suggestions and clearly stating that you don’t have to do all of them to reveal a drastic change in your life nor will all of them pertain to you. While there certainly were some suggestions that didn’t fit with our lifestyle, there were plenty of suggestions that were practical applications that I could easily implement in my life and the lives of my family now that I am consciously aware of them.
“Simplifying your life is about more than just cleaning out your closet and getting rid of physical clutter. Simplicity is a fundamental principle for living a life of meaning and joy.”
Each of her suggestions is something that has an easy and practical application in everyday life. There is nothing about this book that is intimidating or scary, although a few suggestions may be a bit radical for a few people. Each suggestion is also backed with the science or meaning behind it. Incorporating the root cause for the suggested action helps the reader put in perspective what each suggestion means to your health and helps motivate the reader to embark on this journey of simplifying your life and making a healthier more relaxed you. I think each and everyone of us can relate to being too busy, too stressed, and not being conscious enough of our surroundings and how they are negatively affecting our lives and our health. Karin’s book is a great start to beginning a healthier lifestyle, not just a simple trick or short-term diet plan that will quickly wear off.
