This Land Is Our Land: A History of American Immigration

Immigration is what started the creation of our country. As stated in the book This Land is Our Land: A History of American Immigration by Linda Barrett Osborne, if you aren’t a Native American Indian, then you’re either an immigrant or a descendant of an immigrant. This fantastically written book is an older youth book with information portrayed in a manner which even adults will find appealing and fascinating. A genuine understanding of where we all came from could go a long way in understanding the influx of immigrants to not only our country but others, and possibly influence countries as to why people want to leave in the first place.

“American’s through of themselves as Anglo-Saxons if they were born in the United States and descended from an English immigrant.”

The book is broken up not only by time frame but reflecting the masses which occurred from particular countries in time. The mistreatment of immigrants is as ingrained in our history as any other part of it, which the book does an excellent portrayal of from advocacy as well as discrimination. From our founding leaders wanting to separate shades of white to the people of the middle east escaping harsh treatment, our country has always had a foundation of welcoming everyone with the symbolism of the Statue of Liberty. Osborne creates a book which may be classified as children’s history, but is best used as a coffee table book which always remains out for us to be reminded by.
