Feeding a Family is specifically written for young families raising small children. With this in mind, when writing this cookbook, Sarah Waldman created a wonderful cookbook that any young family would enjoy and benefit from. The format is different: Waldman goes through a year, starting with winter, and suggests a large variety of recipes for the home cook. They are not difficult to make, many have few ingredients and may be whipped up quickly even by beginner cooks. Most are good, wholesome recipes taking advantage of the season and often the cook’s garden. Many recipes are illustrated with nice food photos.

“…I offer guidance, inspiration, and concrete ideas on how to make a family dinner work.”

Waldman has very good, informative head notes. With the start of each new season, she lists menus followed by the recipes, of which you may take advantage. She adds her special features with many recipes: whenever kids can help with a recipe, she suggests a Kids Can comment. And for many recipes she suggests how the cook can use part of the meal for the baby. Other suggestions are also useful, called Tomorrow’s Dinner—how to use up leftovers or cook extras ready for next day’s dinner. She makes many ingredients from scratch, like pizza dough and corn tortillas.
