Wild Blood

“Estrella thought of her dam, Perlina. She thought of the star that never moves. Her guide stars were back.”

Estrella has always been a wild horse who has never carried a burden on her back but she knows what it’s like. Carrying her herd to the Mighties, the Continental Divide, to the sweet grasses is an enormous task, but one that she knows she has to try. She faces challenges and obstacles along the way.

In Wild Blood (Horses of the Dawn #3) by Kathryn Lasky, not all the characters are horses. There is also an owl, humans, and a coyote. At first, Estrella don’t trust the spirit lodges they encounter along the way, but she learns to listen to them and to their wisdom. She has to overcome her pride to listen to this wisdom. If you’ve read the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, you would be familiar with her writing style, which is very descriptive.

This is the third and final book in the series. Even if you have not read the first two books, this would be a good book to pick up and read. It would make just a bit more sense if you had read the first two books, but it’s not necessary. This book would be good for readers ages 8 to 15.
