Upside-Down Magic

“It’s never easy when your magic goes wonky.”

Nory has a magic power that is more special than what some other people have. Most other people with her power can change into a regular animal, but Nory can change into an animal with parts of another animal; for instance, a kitty with dragon’s wings. But Nory wants to be like the others and tries to learn how to change her magic powers so she can just change into a regular animal and be like the others.

In Upside-Down Magic by Sarah Mylnowski, Lauren Myracle, and Emily Jenkins, Nory has good relationships with her friends and makes new friends along the way. Many of them have magical powers, but some of them don’t. This was an easy read with a quick pace and exciting as well, with the reader eagerly anticipating what is going to happen next. This book is full of suspense and action. The plot moves along smoothly and it is planned well. The ending was not very surprising but it was still satisfying to reach it. The authors plan at least a second book to follow up on this one and they have left enough room for the characters to grow and the adventures to continue.

This book would be good for boys and girls, but more girls, ages 8 to 11.
