The Copper Gauntlet

Callum Hunt has a Chaos-ridden wolf named Havoc. Cal escapes to the Magisterium with his friends and they try to find the Copper Gauntlet that has been stolen. It has the power to separate magicians from their magic.

The Copper Gauntlet by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare combines magic and fantasy. The plot has a lot of twists and turns. Many chapters end in surprising twists that encourage you to keep reading. This book is hard to put down because there is a lot suspense in the book but towards the end of the book it does not get as suspenseful. You get to know the characters along the way: how they act, what they think, how they are. You can relate to the characters, including Havoc, because most of them are everyday kids. They make some bad choices; sometimes they are impulsive; and sometimes they are braver than they really ought to be. In this story, the characters are better developed in the middle of the book than you would find in other stories.

“The first Chaos-ridden knelt known in front of Call. And then the next Chaos-ridden knelt, and the next, until they were all on their knees ….”

Ms. Black also had a hand in The Spiderwick Chronicles. This is book two of a planned five book series. It would be good for kids ages ten and older.
