This book is really awesome. Chess: Be the King! is really easy to understand all the things the authors are telling you about. There are lots of diagrams and illustrations that make it clear and easy to follow what is happening. It goes over all the rules and the set up, starting at the very basics of how each piece moves and the point of the game, so even if you are an absolute beginner, you will learn how to play. Then it goes into different moves, and it explains each one thoroughly. At the end of each chapter, authors Ellisiv Reppen and Flu Hartberg ask you questions to make sure you understood what they were talking about.

“Are you ready to become the king of chess?
Chess is played on all continents and by millions of people. It is the world’s most popular board game, and is enjoyed by people of all ages.”

The book is colorful and funny, and very engaging to read. There are also little sidebars that tell you more about the game or give you some tips and tricks. There is a section about some grandmasters just for fun, and sections about good opening moves, chess variations, good moves in the middle and end game, and lots of other things. If you want to learn all about chess, pick up this book – then go play the game!
