While Marvel comic books, movies, and TV shows are ways to introduce the Avengers to a child, The Avengers Storybook Collection makes it easy for a child to understand each Avenger’s background without using overt sex, violence, or vulgar speech. The storybook also allows parents to bond with their children, especially parents who love anything comic book related. Each story, written and illustrated by different writers and artists, takes about 5 minutes with lots of colorful pictures for kids to keep up with each tale.

“And with that, the Avengers returned to Avengers Tower to resume their training, because it was their hard work and dedication that made them Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.”

What makes The Avengers Storybook Collection memorable are its feel-good themes and how well each writer captures the Avengers. The Avengers without powers—Black Widow, Falcon, and Hawkeye—take the spotlight in their own stories, giving these lesser-known characters a substantial role in the power-heavy superhero group. Other heroes show up in the storybook, including Agent Phil Coulson and Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The only complaint from parents on Amazon is the actual writing ability in The Avengers Storybook Collection. It feels a bit rushed as though the editors decided that a storybook needed as many stories as The Original Folk and Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm. Kids won’t notice but adults may see how some details are gleaned over with general descriptions and words as in “Call for Backup”: “Forced to fight the Guardians, the Outriders backed off Iron Man. The armored Avenger was able to pick himself up and defend himself against his attackers.” The colorful pictures help, but in reality, The Avengers Storybook Collection is meant for kids. Parents can’t be too picky over a storybook’s word choice when it comes down to their children’s bedtime stories.

However simple and general The Avengers Storybook Collection seems, parents and children will find a happy middle ground in reading about their favorite Avengers in a different form.
